Your Love Was Enough
A Poem
the stuff of dreams —
that’s what they tell us love should be
and i never doubted it
until i met you
ours was a dance of sparks,
of tension meeting and pulling back,
of near misses and second chances
all leading back to a tomb
and maybe you regret things
after the end’s come and gone
and maybe i said the wrong thing
to bruise your heart in just the right way
but, honey, that’s in the past
and we can be fine again if we try
your love was enough —
don’t think it wasn’t,
no matters the tears that fall now
as i weep for what might have been
your love was enough —
try to remember that,
and don’t let yourself go thinking
you were ever in the wrong about any of it
all those dizzying nightmares
and late-night spells of sleepless fury
were pale in comparison to the thought
of a world where we didn’t end up meeting
