someday
you’ll be queen —
but i shook my head —
no, no, no, no, no.

someday
you’ll have a king —
but i shook my head —
no, no, no, no, no.

i don’t want
petty treatises
or politics
on the line.

i don’t want
a chessboard
always in front of me
as i wander through time.

i ask you
over and over and over again —
does the future
scare you too?

i ask you
why you stand before me —
as if you have the answers,
with your back towards me?

coyote legends never scared me —
oh, it’s true indeed —
because fairy tales scared me more
as stepsisters lost their toes and their eyes.
