how the sunrise
looks like blood —
oh, why did I never realize
as the red burns my eyes
and reminds me
of cruelty?

oh, do you hear that sound?
listen closely, tread lightly,
and you’ll soon know
the cries of thousands
that you sent out
to the slaughter this day

you — every single one —
led to this morning
bled raw with tears
while you cheer
and sneer
in droves

did you think
you were blameless?

never
forget

hell has a special place
for the ones who do
the devil’s work
while trying to don
pure white mantels
of righteousness

you use old words
to justify new wounds
while sewing up
your daughters
and condemning them,
like you’re demons of…
