Do you ever think you might be doing your job too well?

I’m starting to feel the temptation — and strain — of such a thought as I continue to go into work like the good little worker bee I’ve been trained to become.

At this point, I’m getting tasks and responsibilities from all over my department. Sometimes I feel proud — I must be doing a good job if they’re trusting me with something like this — but other days I feel this creeping edge that I’m being taken advantage of slowly but surely.

“It’s all about your job description,” someone in another department told me when I mentioned the heft of what my job’s been entailing.

But is it really? Let’s see what dominoes are stacked up.

The head supervisor over the department still can’t get my name right. I’ve figured at this point that it’s just one of those lost causes. I hope she never gets someone who will be outright offended — and vocal about it — each time she gets his/her name wrong. I could understand after a week, but four-plus months later? Come on.

Another woman in my department even tried to coax me over to applying for a position as her assistant. I declined as politely — and firmly…
