A Drabble a Day — No1

Image Edited from a Photo via Depositphotos

Evelyn leaves me a lipstick smear of a message on the bathroom mirror every day before I go to work.

Today red X’s and O’s stare back at me as I brush my teeth.

My fingertips move over the wax-like imprints that feel like silt beneath my touch.

“That’s going to be a bitch to clean off,” I murmur.

Then I spit into the sink and rinse.

I wish the letters glazed across my reflection were as easy to wipe away.

I hate to think what she’s going to leave after she finds out I’ve been cheating on her.

This story was inspired by Grim Flandango’s Drabble a Day series, the one-word prompt for today (4/14) being “SILT.”

Always glad to participate in more writing challenges when they come my way!
