Wishes on Stars Won’t Save Us Now

A Poem

the galaxy seems boundless
while we sip on starlight
and wade through worm holes,
anything to get away
from the lives we lived
in a world
that never cared about us.

follow me through the portal,
and maybe we’ll know bliss
in the guise of outer realms
with so much gravity
to pull us down
and wrap us up
in smaller spaces.

oh, what if, what if
we could just linger
in sky-bound fantasy
and see a new light
far from pain,
free of hurt,
tried and true?

but we’re not going anywhere,
even in this infinite lair,
because we’re stuck
and there’s no way out —
sucking all our life
from havens above
and hells below.
