Wild For You
Were we a daydream or a nightmare?
“Do you want to take me home?”
Fiona’s voice does strange things to me, and I know if I say yes that it’ll be more than just taking her home. It’ll be like a trail of enchanted breadcrumbs as I follow her up the stairs to her apartment. Then we’ll probably kiss in her living room until we end up tangling together on her bed. I won’t even care about the heavy metal band posters staring down at me with their flaming skulls and specters looming in the shadows.
I hesitate, and she notices right away. “What? You think I have ulterior motives or something? God, it’s just a ride home.”
“I didn’t say anything,” I respond, defensive, and she squints at me with those eyes that tell me she knows all too well what I was thinking. Then she sighs and runs a hand through her blonde hair.
“You know, this kind of wishy-washy behavior of yours is why we never worked, Ian,” she says. “You got caught up in your head too damn much.”
“Are you saying you’re any better?” I end up snapping, and she looks at me with wide eyes because I’ve never spoken to her like that before. But I push on. “You play all these mind games. I never know which way is up or down with you. Do you think that’s fair? Or will you admit it’s just a bit fucked up?”
