Where Did We Go Wrong?

A Poem

salmon pink skies
and the white of those flowers
you hand-picked for me —
oh, tell me, lover,
where did we go wrong?

you traversed my dreams
and even my daily battlefields,
and, oh, did it cost us —
but tell me, lover,
where did we go wrong?

your hands held mine
through every quake
and through valleys —
lover, we were magic, yet
where did we go wrong?

you kissed my scars,
and I cupped your heart
in my fragile palms —
oh, lover, I miss you —
where did we go wrong?

the sun sets on today
while we live under
such different skies —
I loved you true, so
where did we go wrong?

you told me no lies,
we broke no oaths,
but still we fell apart —
lover, please, tell me
where did we go wrong?
