Once upon a time, I lived below the sea.
Oh, you look surprised. Yes, I traded my fins for legs. My hair has turned gray, and my limbs have grown soft, but I was once a mermaid who longed for the world above.
Those kinds of endeavors never end well.
But the stories never get it right, do they? I didn’t give up my voice, and there certainly wasn’t a prince.
But there was a girl — one whose eyes reminded me of underwater caverns filled with light.
She was the start, you see.
There would be no story without her.
