What Secrets Do Your Eyes Hold?
A Poem
he thinks you’re a mystery,
some puzzle to solve in his free time,
because you hold all the cards
while you won’t even spare him a glance
but when I face you, you’re all smiles —
so keen to be friends, no matter what —
and I don’t trust those eyes of yours
because you’ve lied so much before
he thinks you’re his fantasy,
ripped straight from a book or movie,
because you’re beautiful like a star
with a smile even more slick than sin
but I know the truth behind your smile —
that curve of mischief, all those tricks to hide —
and I know it’s only a matter of time
before you break his heart like all the rest
he thinks you’re that fairy-tale girl
who won’t be bothered with schemes —
maybe a Cinderella or a Briar Rose —
but he hasn’t heard you scream, has he?
you think you’ve got them all fooled,
twined around your little finger for all time,
yet I’ve had my eyes on you for a…
