A Poem

what are we right now?

are we just a blink in the galaxy
before some universe is born
so many millions of light years away?

what can we ever be
when we’re just a moment
caught and then let go, like breathing,
till there’s nothing but a solemn ending?

what are we in this glimpse
of time standing still?

are we just meant to be
a missed chance in a span
of billions of lives set in motion?

what can we ever hope
to become and manifest
when we’re just tides in the ocean
tugged and pulled by a faraway moon?

what are we hoping to achieve
in a world that doesn’t care about us,
no matter how we struggle to live and thrive
beneath an unforgiving sun in a never-ending sky?

are we just solemn prayers
whispered to deaf gods above
who could never answer so many pleas?
