What Does My Spotify “Top Artists” List of 2021 Say About Me?
This is in no way scientific.
This year of 2021 was the first time I used Spotify for more than just a stray song or two, and — what do you know — there was enough listening time accumulated that I had top-five lists all around. (“Dance Pop” was somehow my most-listened-to genre.)
I thought, “Hey, what if I examine this information?” And here we are, a few days later, and I’m ready to feel all the things again with the artists whose songs I played the most this year.
Let’s just start from number five and go on down…
5. Conan Gray
This inclusion alone is all too telling that, when I find a song I like, there is no stopping me from placing it on repeat to the nth degree where any other person might go insane from listening to the same song so many times.
Conan Gray’s “People Watching” is that kind of song for me. I don’t know how many times I’ve played it — couldn’t even give you a good guess — but I’d imagine it’s well over a hundred. While I do love Gray’s popular song, “Heather,” I fell hard for “People Watching” because I am so like the narrator in this song: I’m constantly watching other people’s love lives progress while mine remains in stasis.
