In the newest simulation, Daisy sat across from James Dean.

She swallowed a sigh and tried not to think about how he was looking at her. As if he pitied her. Well, screw that. She had enough of pity to last all her days.

“Begin,” the robots said from the speakers.

Daisy looked at James Dean — yes, she had known his name without him saying a word — and leveled her gaze at him.

Ready?

He flinched as he heard her voice in his head.

She almost laughed.

Then a smile twitched on his lips.

You can do that?

Daisy grinned.

This series is inspired by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in a city on the brink of dystopian musings. Each story is 100 words, a snapshot of a larger narrative at play.
