We’re Flying Solo

A Poem

you thought you saved the day —
caped crusaders have such colossal egos —
but there was more to that story
we had crafted in technicolor shades

big hero, huh, you make me laugh
because you’re robbing from the rich
to scatter coins among the poor
but there’s no curing the toxic root

mysterious eyes, so intent
on change and its wayward brothers —
did you think you were the savior
to riot the way to glory?

give me your neighborhood lackey
and let him get an upgrade
since times are hard indeed
while we spin lies for profit

tout your guns, if you want —
but those weapons are for other wars
which stick close to home
and blot out the hope of humanity

we’ve got a one-way ticket
down a road paved with intentions
that we once thought were good, golden,
till everything started to tarnish
