you don’t know how much
i longed for you in scraps of shadow

you don’t know how much
i craved you in the sheets of your mind

you don’t know how long
i waited just for you to look my way

you don’t know how long
i stood by the wayside as you went on

you don’t know how much
i longed to press a kiss to your lips

you don’t know how much
i lingered on you as you fell asleep

you had no idea, and i liked it that way —
but things have to change here and now

you had no idea, and you were better off —
before i pulled you close and ravished you

you were the one i kept close in a locket
as you ran your fingers through my hair

you were the one i kept close to my heart
as if every beat was for you, just you, alone

you ran sparks through my mind each night
till i was gasping for release, gentle release, again
