Elyria asked for a dress made of starlight.
Her fairy godmother sighed. “Wouldn’t a regular dress suffice?”
“No, I want to look like a shooting star put into human form.”
“Oh, child, you will be the death of me.”
But the woman relented and conjured the dress.
“I hope the prince likes it.”
“The prince?” Elyria laughed. “Oh, no, this dress is for me. I don’t need to impress some stuck-up prince.”
The fairy godmother’s face fell. “You’re not going to the ball?”
“Of course not! I’m going to the pumpkin patch party. Do you want to come with?”
This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
