A Poem

your life’s in the spotlight,
and i don’t know if i can ever stop
being blinded by the very idea of you.

you walk to your own beat,
and it takes everything i have in me
just to try and catch up with your stride.

it’s so easy to think
you’ll leave me behind one day
just like so many others in the past.

i can’t change the tides
or quell the quakes of our lives —
but i want to go to the other side with you.

will you let me follow along?
even if i can’t match you step for step,
will you wait for me at the next crossroads?

am i just wishing on moonbeams?
will i ever find a way to catch your starlight,
or is that just another losing game for me to accept?

in every crowd, i find you
and marvel at your brilliance —
so aglow that i can barely catch my breath.

but tomorrow you’re leaving,
off to another adventure across the seas —
and i’ll be on my own again, like…
