A Drabble a Day — No2

Image Edited from a Photo via Depositphotos

Amanda left the note underneath a coffee cup on my kitchen table. A ring of liquid residue clung to the paper when I retrieved it.

“Sorry I always do this. I guess I can’t face you in the mornings. My bad.”

Then, as if we were no more than a passing fling, the finality of it rang out with just four letters: ttyl.

I bowed my head, thinking of the night prior when she had pinned me to the bed.

Love? I thought we had it.

I crumpled up the note in my fist and tossed it in the garbage.

This story was inspired by Grim Flandango’s Drabble a Day series, the one-word prompt for today (4/15) being “TABLE.”

Always glad to participate in more writing challenges when they come my way!
