Tsunami Warning

Poetry

Photo by Ines Álvarez Fdez on Unsplash

there are waves too high to bear

when I fall asleep to a sky full of stars

and wish for a better tomorrow to alight.

there are waters too great to swim

when I float against the fabric of the universe

and hope for more opportunities another day.

there are storms to weather and survive

when I close my eyes and say a prayer

and want something out there to hear.

there are winds that blow us over

and take their time in their destruction

till we’re just dust left to carry off.

there are quiet moments of peace

in the doldrums of a living day

and we realize we must strive on.

there are too many scopes to name,

all honed in on our careful signals,

and we’re hoping we’re not just lost at sea.
