Tomorrow’s Not So Far Away

A Poem

thoughts of you
and where you are now
circulate like dandelion seeds
on this spring day so far from yesterday

once, we would have enjoyed the time
spent in each other’s company —
but now we’re strangers
in different lives

and maybe
we might have grown old
in the knowledge we could be together
in ways that didn’t need to be named or defined

but so it goes, so it goes, we lost our way
somewhere along the journey
as if we were destined to be
distant fading stars

and i wanted
to be there for the ride,
whatever the cost would have been —
but you didn’t let me come on that adventure

lost time — oh, it haunts me and always has,
the hourglass sinking in the waves,
and you knew that burn too
once upon a time ago
