’Tis a Tale of How the Algorithm Gods Blessed Me Once Upon a Season
Or — that one time I actually reveal a thing about earnings.
I have been a writer on this platform since April 2021. In the months since that first foray, I’ve learned quite a few things — especially some simple elements like how to make a subtitle properly and how to use single-space formatting for my poetry. I have also been fortunate enough to have work accepted into various publications that have become welcome homes for some of my writing.
Let’s be clear: I’m not exactly a heavy-hitter of a writer. Sure, I’ve had a few top writer tags to my name — Fiction, LGBTQ, Movies, and Music have been scattered honors — but those come and go with the shifting variables tied to writers’ stats pages.
Even the earnings themselves can leave a lot to be desired. My ten-cent starting month of April may have skyrocketed to three figures by November, but it’s never a guarantee that the audience will stay with me month to month.
But I’ve had a few successes — particularly a little fiction piece, standing at a seven-minute read time, called “My Stepbrother’s Girlfriend”:
