This reminded me of my mom's struggles in the last years of her life. My father sadly showed resentment and isolated himself from her deterioration, so I had to do a lot of the care-giving - and it took a toll on both her and me. She hated depending on someone, and I sometimes let frustration get the best of me. But after she passed away all I found myself thinking was that I wish the last years of her life could have been peaceful instead of painful, you know? Her suffering seemed so unnecessary, especially for someone who had once been so independent. But - yeah, I felt this essay of yours. I'll be thinking of you both. I'm sure your wife appreciates you more than you know.
