The Words Become Dazzling Effigies of Yesterday’s Pain
Or — an introduction to some of my prose poetry.
That title is a punch, isn’t it? It may speak of melodrama between the lines, but often my prose poems begin with a title that I then tie to an image — only to write from there and see where the words take me.
I’ve written a few hundred poems in 2021, but only recently have I been bitten by the bug to write prose poetry that evokes emotion through the use of lush sentences and structure with meaning.
As an overview of my prose poems thus far, I decided to pick a few handfuls to give you an idea of where I come from with these poetic iterations of mine.
What may sound weird is that I often take the male perspective a lot in short fiction and poetry, so it can be a trial in patience if you read too many of my prose poems. I think my fascination has to do with the fact that men often seem to be mysteries when it comes to what they feel — and I want to explore that in a myriad of ways.
