The woman in the ice smiled as if she were still alive and vibrant.

Michael had studied her for years, noting her every change whether it was the spark in her eyes or the tilt of her head, and the people in the village thought he was mad.

“Go find yourself a girl who’s not been frozen over for centuries, boy,” one man chided. “Don’t waste your life on a woman who’ll never warm your bed.”

But Michael loved the mystery of the woman. Who had she been? What had her name been?

He longed to unearth all her secrets.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
