The Wolf in Girl’s Clothing
Some things never change.
Welcome to the menagerie. Come inside, come inside, get out of the cold.
Have you seen a mermaid before? No? What about a walking corpse? No again? What kind of life have you lived, boy? You never see anything out here in the city, and even the full moon is hazy behind all the smog.
But maybe you’re better off that you can’t see the things in the dark before they come and try to snatch you away into the unknown of the shadows.
Here’s the mermaid behind glass. See the despair in her eyes? Many men have fallen prey to such a look. But it’s her voice you have to fear above all. A few notes, and you’d be down in Davy Jones’s locker with the rest of those poor sailors who were sung to their deaths.
I’ll let you in on a secret: this siren was caught and sold by a man who promised her the world. He lured her with pretty promises, and she held back her killing song. Rumor has it a sea witch tried to warn her — but, ah, you know how these stories go. But if she ever gets loose, you know for sure that she’ll be on the hunt for the man who trapped her in the first place.
Anyone can turn tides for a fair bit of gold or silver.
Next up is the deathly maiden — though your city folk might call her a specter, a ghoul…
