The queen knew heads would likely roll after tonight.

But she still walked into the throne room with her head held high, her crown perched in place as it had almost always been since she had been fourteen years old.

If she thought back, she could still remember how heavy the crown had seemed those first few days after her coronation.

But now? She had grown accustomed to the burden of it.

She walked in her father’s footsteps.

Soon, if she proved unlucky, she would die the same as he did.

There were no traitors in a court of madness.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
