The War Is Coming
No one saw it before it was too late.
Bethany was in school when she heard the news about the invaders. Her friend Tasha was sitting in the cafeteria, blowing bubblegum in big smacks of noise, as she sat next to her boyfriend Darren. Bethany was scrolling on her phone, her brow furrowed over how stupid social media had become.
Then the alerts came through on their phones.

Bethany and Tasha exchanged looks before all three of them — and everyone else with a cell phone in the vicinity — turned their attention to the phones in their palms.
Bethany opened the link, a browser filling her screen with a live feed of the president standing in front of the United States flag. His brow was furrowed, clearly displeased, before he began to address the nation through millions of screens across the nation.
