My legs couldn’t take me fast enough to the altar. You laughed as you sped after me, but I outpaced you easily enough to be the first to throw my coins below Adunna’s crumbling feet.

“You cheated!” you cried out, and I grinned back at you as if I hadn’t a care in the world.

“Adunna gifted me wings on my ankles,” I said. “She rewards her loyal followers.”

You stared up at me — and then a shadow darkened our path.

“Such loud children,” came the familiar voice of the goddess. “Did you need to awaken me from my slumber?”
