There were worse things in the world than being a champion among women. The only problem came when men doubted the expertise that came along with the name, the sword, and the ballads sung in your name.
The village elders told her she had to go through the hungry forest and prove herself worthy of the accolades to her name.
In a different age, she might have refused, allowing herself to be exiled to a far more peaceful place.
But a part of her was stubborn. Oh, the gods wouldn’t have dared cross her.
Why did mortal men think differently?
This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
