Another soul passed through the angel’s fingertips. She felt the bright flare of life for one instant before it sputtered out.

Her hand trembled as if she had been burned.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered as the glow began to fade, dissipating like smoke on the wind.

She remembered the image of a man kneeling and pleading while tears spilled from his eyes.

But it had been pointless.

The flood eventually came for him, just as it did with his shack of a home easily buckling under the power of one storm too strong.

Humans.

They were too easy to forget.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
