The Shipwreck of Me

A Poem

Did you realize I’d be a goner
The first time you laid eyes on me?
Or did you think you might save me
Even from a threat like myself?

Because, darling, I left you a trap
Laced with honey-sweet lies
And kisses too spiced to be laden
Down with the taste of normalcy.

I thought you’d be the one
Who could clear all the noise
But I could never quite shake
The buzz of what I said and did.

Silver-tongued devils came
And went too, if I’m honest —
But I’d never say that of you,
My lion-heart lover true.

But let’s say, just between us,
That we’re in for a losing game
Because I can drown all on my own
But I don’t want to take you with me.

Maybe it’s time you walk away —
And leave me to these ghosts
Trying to drag me down
To the deep, dark abyss.
