The Shadow

I saw her there.

Oh, she haunts me.

I don’t know her name.

But I want to. Oh, I do, I do.

Some days it’s like a fever dream when she comes to me.

Other days, I don’t even remember who I am. I just see her in the haze of it all.

I close my eyes and count to ten.

But she’s still there when I open my eyes.

I want to scream, but the sound is caught in a tangle in my throat.

She stares at me, accusing.

This is what happens when you see a woman you’re doomed to kill someday.
