Ren sat, bored, at the edge of the crowd waiting for the Elementals — a synth group — to take the stage. Girls in neon outfits, shifting in ever-flowing cascades of color, chattered about little nothings while he ran through different scenarios on his Moodcord. He bit at his thumbnail and sighed softly, every pathway blocked for what was supposed to be his next move.

Spire was where she would be. He had foreseen it. Even though the other hunters specialized in different aptitudes, his had always been in the gift of Sight — one of the last Gifts the Lumina had left before they went extinct.

Today, if he caught her, he’d be able to eat worry-free for 312 days. Today, if he handed her in for the bounty, he would be able to afford his one-room apartment on Wendigo for six months. He had calculated it all well beforehand.

But she was still a no-show. He let out a growl of frustration. Why did witches have to be so hard to find?

Then, as if answering some call, he looked up to see a purple-haired young woman walk into the fog of the room.

She looked like a ghost, a nightmare, a mistake.

But he had seen her before.

Not on the bounty poster.

No.

He had seen her in a dream.

Into the Fog follows a rag-tag group of adventurers who are headed towards the stars. In this installment, we meet another main character named Ren who is trying to see what the world has in store for him. But is what he wants really what he needs?

In our next chapter, we’ll see what happens when the sparks meet for the first time.
