The Power of Music (Hey Oh)

I listen to the airwaves and drown in the sounds.

I keep my head down, my headphones plastered to my ears.

I keep my head down, the music blaring in my brain.

I keep my head down, the train rattling along the tracks.

I keep my head down, eyeing the scuffed black sneakers of a man sitting across from me.

Then I look up and see a woman staring back at me.

Her eyes are kohl, her lips are red, and her smile tells me she has a secret.

But I look down.

I have enough secrets of my own.

I don’t need any others.

The music keeps me safe.
