i’m going back to the beginning,
before all your shades
painted me gray
and
before i fell
into you

i thought i knew you,
but it turns out you were
the mystery
hidden
right out in the open
and i was the fool

i’m trying to retrace my steps
all the way
to that first glimpse,
that shatter point,
which struck me
senseless

i thought we were golden,
but i knew nothing
because you were a reflection
of nothing more
than what i craved
in the moment

it was the perfect trap

i’m hoping for a miracle
to drive you out —
like an intervention,
like an exorcism —
but it’s too late to save me
since you’ve crept deep inside
