The Orange Roses You Left Behind

A Poem

Photo by Jill Burrow from Pexels

picture perfect

sweet songs

fluttering close

eyes open

for bliss

to come

such a dream

they thought us

loving and caring

as we fought

behind closed doors

we were war

love banished our senses

until we knew better

bitter tears we wept

like a death knell

ringing through the noise

we made for ourselves

I said goodbye

while you avoided

all the wreckage

and there sat

that orange bouquet

you threw down

tears fled

petals fell

you left

I stayed

roses thorns

hurt less

I called you

you didn’t answer

just gone away

like nothing mattered

my heart swam

in orange tides

say it

if you must

that love departed here

in the afterglow

of yesterday
