The Only One Who Ever Loved You

A Poem

captivated —
it’s true
when they say
we’re all hanging
by the thread
of someone else’s words

love
comes and goes,
and the phrases shift
to apathy
and guilt,
intermingled lines

honey,
so sweet —
the laughter ebbed
and I was yours
with just a breath,
a huff of humor

mine
became yours
in fragments,
the pieces
of my life
no one else owned

just
how did we
get here,
and where
were we going —
did you even know?

lies,
never thought much
of how you could
spin a tale
with a silver tongue
and not blink an eye
