The One You Called Forever

A Poem

she is, she is, she is —
rainbow kisses at midnight,
truth uttered under a starless sky,
a proclamation made in whispers

she is, she is, she is —
every little wrong made right,
the justice of heaven foretold,
a passing phase made permanent

she is, she is, she is —
a picture-perfect temptation,
sin cloaked in a white shroud,
a goddess unnamed in history

she is, she is, she is —
the sunlight before the burn,
the taste before the bite,
the water before the drowning

she is, she is, she is —
what saves you every night,
what makes you wake each morn,
what calls to you in every language

she is, she is, she is —
the voice before the song,
the melody before the strain,
the moment before the hourglass breaks
