The Nightmare’s Only Just Beginning

Her roommates thought it was just a game.
“Lighten up,” Monica said mockingly. “Ghosts aren’t real.”
Candace joined in the laughter. “Yeah, Cass, grow up a little.”
The untouched box sat on the coffee table and contained the last remnants of the tenant before them. A tenant who had been murdered in this same apartment.
But Cass knew something the other girls didn’t.
She bit her bottom lip and tried to hide her fear.
Because the tenant? She was standing right there, staring straight at Cass.
“Go on,” the ghost said, her throat slashed into a scarlet necklace. “Tell them.”
This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
