The “My” Universe I’ve Been Writing Is Slowly Growing
Yeah, it’s gotten kinda serious.
Despite what the numbers may tell you when it comes to my fiction output, I’m not actually a writer who gravitates to “real life” stories — at least in the sense that they take place in our contemporary world with no hint of magical glimmers or even a whiff of speculative fragrance.
That’s why I would say it’s surprising that the fiction I write that gets read the most is utterly devoid of anything pertaining to fantasy or science fiction. You could accuse these stories of being outlandish or unrealistic in other ways — like going, “Hey, Jillian, these people seem pretty messed up that they go for all these other people who are supposed to be off-limits” — but I would blame those elements on the fact that I love good melodrama, especially of the “forbidden” ilk.
And I might not have written any (more) such stories if “My Stepbrother’s Girlfriend” hadn’t made a big splash back in September 2021.
