The Looking Glass Shatters

There was power in reflections.
But the queen had never known what it was like to glimpse her own beauty — if that was even the case. Sycophants may have plied her with lies just to curry favor.
It didn’t matter.
The kingdom was dying, soul by soul, from plague.
Soon there would be no one left.
No one left to govern.
No one left to command.
No one left to comment on her visage.
Perhaps she should have tried to find a cure.
But no matter.
Soon she too would be gone.
At least she knew her own ugliness inside.
This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
