The Hours I Lost

A Poem

it’s another night
where i wander again
in and out of sleep, toss and turn,
like a ship back and forth in a stormy sea.

and you were lost too once, weren’t you?
what did you do when the tears wouldn’t stop?
did you ever sit back and wonder about endings?
or is that just another one of my morbid fascinations?

moonlight’s cruel at times like these
because the silver sheen reveals us in shades
as if we’ll never be more than ghosts in pale masks,
haunting and hoping and having no way out but down, down, down.

it’s another night
where i take my time
in the endless labyrinth of my mind
as if the dead ends will teach me something.

and you were unhappy too, weren’t you?
what did you do when the screams ran ragged?
did you ever close your eyes and gasp out a prayer?
or is that just one of those things i do to pass the time?

sunlight feels like it’s never gonna come
as i wait for some hint of daybreak to peek…
