I looked in the mirror and saw a ghost of what I had once been. Time had dragged my skin down to become wrinkle lines etched into the once-smooth surface. The tumbling locks that had made my sisters envious had frayed and turned gray.

I closed my eyes and mourned the girl lost to the tide of an hourglass’s unforgiving sands.

I no longer saw the woman my husband had pined after, the one who had flirted and seduced at ease.

Who was I without her youthful glamour of invincibility?

And who was I becoming in that woman’s place?
