The Girl Who Could Have Had Everything
Into Folklore #2 — “cardigan”
“You thought you were so cool out there, chasing us both,” Betty said to James, “but I’m getting at the end of my rope here. I thought you were perfect, but you’re not. All you’re doing is hurting us both.”
Then she walked out into the rain, her cardigan getting soaked by the downpour.
She cried and stood at the bus stop, hugging herself for warmth.
Then someone — she didn’t see who — came up behind her with an umbrella to cover them both. The stranger said nothing.
But Betty smiled anyway.
Warmth wasn’t too far away after all, it seemed.
Beautiful beginnings can sometimes come from the weeds. Do you appreciate Taylor Swift’s Folklore album? Then follow along for this series of microfiction; this one was based off “cardigan,” track number two.
