Oh, you know her? Think again.

She is a mystery you want to unravel.

Her hair could be curled into careful waves that fall across her back, or she could be sporting a tight bun to show how she can be careful in even the way she presents herself to the world. She is not a present to be unwrapped by the right man.

Most days she seems to pretend she is a potato sack with nothing to prove to the world. She’ll pass by and offer an awkward smile right before she puts her head down again.

This is how she copes in a world that would make her a commodity at any moment.

You realize this because she is you — or, a least, the shroud of something you once wore yourself.

You? You’ve accepted the weapon of the right shade of lipstick. You walk around a room and know you could own it with just a few well-placed words — gossip, perhaps, or just a choice phrase.

You have risen to the top, and you know the fall would be a crash you might never survive.

Worse, you like being at the top. You can’t imagine a world where you’re a bottom feeder again. You’ve lived that life. But you know your throne could topple at any moment. There are always more scores of girls hungry to succeed and prove themselves…
