The Gentle Art of Women Loving Women
There’s a beauty there that I’m trying to capture in words.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I tend to skew towards writing romances that feature women loving women. (You might also raise your eyebrows that I write a lot of romance written from the male POV. That’s the subject of another essay in the works.) Truthfully, I hadn’t noted the trend myself till I actually looked back at what I had written back in 2021 and so far in 2022.
While we may always try to separate the creator from the person behind the art (that’s another essay to come), I know there are some people who might wonder just what goes on in my head that I seem so focused on dynamics between would-be lesbians. Why do that if you’re not part of the LGBTQ community yourself? Just what are you trying to accomplish?
I wouldn’t even entertain such questions except for another thing I noticed about my writing: I haven’t written much about men loving men. Just what’s up with that? I mean, the only one that comes to mind is “Love in the Time of COVID-19” — which was definitely a tame affair compared to what I’ve written about women loving women.
“Are you sure there’s not something in your subconscious?” you may ask me. And I think there is — at least as far as my inclinations toward subtlety, aesthetics…
