The Firefly Garden of Our Dreams

100 Faces in 100 Stories — No15

--

You said that you’d come back as a firefly if you died.

I was a kid, so I didn’t believe you. But I still laughed because you were the warmth of the moment, the sun to my sphere. It was easy enough to revolve around you when I couldn’t imagine my own light doing the job.

Then you were gone. An accident. Sudden. Undeniable. Irreversible.

I cried and cried for I don’t know how long.

But I went back to our garden, the place where we played once upon a time.

The fireflies welcomed me as if I’d never left.
