100 Faces in 100 Stories — No20

--

I was Queen Titania’s handmaiden before her murder on the Twelfth Night of Summertide. The blame fell on me because I was supposed to be at her chamber door every night. It was worse than the night Puck’s mischief had allowed the queen to make bedfellows with a mule-headed man.

King Oberon had forgiven that slight. He would not forgive his queen’s death within the court he sustained.

The iron burned into my wrists when I was brought before the Tribunal. The guards forced me to my knees.

Then I looked into the unforgiving eyes of the Summer King.
