“You’ve always been the one, Rebekah,” William whispered, tracing a finger down her cheek. “I don’t care what my parents say. I don’t care what society says. Buy your house, buy your dreams, I don’t care. Just marry me already.”

Rebekah sucked in a breath. “Do you mean that? Truly?”

His eyes sparkled in the shadows. “I don’t lie to you if I can help it.”

Then he took her hand and brought a kiss to her palm. “Madness. Bad habits. That’s us. When will you finally believe?”

She closed her eyes and smiled.

The shadows would flee in time.
