The Elixir
#100StoryChallenge — No28
The apothecary was once lauded as the most trusted resource in the kingdom.
But then the king died and the apothecary master was charged with the monarch’s untimely death.
The man’s apprentice, a maid named Allia, went through hours of interrogation until she finally confessed how her master had slipped the poison into the king’s nightly herbal remedy.
There was more to the story than that, of course.
There were rumors that the apothecary master had found the elixir of life.
The secret would not die with him.
It would be pried from his lips between his screams for mercy.
